Personal portraits, headshots, couples and engagement portraits

A portrait begins before the camera.

It begins with a conversation about what matters to you, how you want to be seen, and what you want the work to hold.

How it works

  1. We develop the visual direction together, shaping the atmosphere, lighting and setting before we meet.

  2. During the session, I guide you through the process, with room to settle, explore and be yourself.

  3. Your selected photographs are then carefully finished. For an AR commission, I also create a digital layer that becomes part of the physical work.

Photographic portrait commissions, from £450

Your commission includes the conversation and moodboarding before we meet, creative direction throughout your session, and the careful finishing of 10 selected photographs.

£450 includes your first hour of studio photography. Additional time is £250 per hour.

Good to know
  • Settling in and outfit changes take place within the booked photography time.
  • Additional time is always agreed before it is charged.
  • Additional hours extend the photography time. They don’t automatically include more edited images.
  • Need more edited images than your package includes? Get in touch and I’ll quote according to the nature and extent of the extra work.
  • Studio styling uses the available backgrounds, lighting and props.
  • Bespoke sets, specialist props, location hire, travel, hair and makeup are quoted separately.
  • Editing includes colour, exposure and natural finishing. Extensive compositing and specialist retouching need a separate quotation.
  • Raw and unselected files are not included.
  • Planned engagement portraits can be booked here. Live proposals, events and larger organisational shoots start with an enquiry.

£450 includes

  • A preparatory consultation.
  • Moodboarding and an agreed visual direction.
  • Planning the lighting and studio setting.
  • The first hour of studio photography.
  • One planned setting using available backgrounds and props.

A portrait you can hold.

A fine-art print, with a voice, movement or memory held within its digital layer.

AR commissions from £750, including a physical artwork.

Good to know
  • Several people in one photograph don’t automatically mean separate activated portraits or stories.
  • The digital layer is shaped, built and tested after the session, so your activated artwork is ready within four weeks, not on the day.
  • The production scope and deliverables are agreed in writing before you book.
  • AR hosting runs for as long as the app is available, with no fixed expiry or renewal charge. If the platform closes or changes significantly, I’ll make reasonable efforts to offer an alternative, but I can’t guarantee indefinite hosting or technical support.
  • Anything not listed here, such as session length or extra people or stories, is agreed case by case, with any extra costs confirmed upfront.
  • An AR commission includes an A4 print, with upgrades to A3 or A2.
  • Prints are unframed, studio collection is free, and framing and postage are quoted separately.
  • Additional copies and larger formats are by enquiry.
  • An additional copy is a reprint of an artwork you already have, not a new photograph or a new AR creation.
  • Physical artwork is ready to collect from the studio in Hull, or posted, within the delivery time. Postal transit time comes on top.
  • An AR Polaroid is an optional free keepsake, subject to availability, and separate from the 10 edited images. Extra copies or other options can be quoted separately.

£750 includes

  • 10 edited digital portraits.
  • One physical artwork with one AR layer: an A4 print, with upgrades to A3 or A2.

What people use it for

  • A musician and their album cover

Your cover is the first thing anyone sees of the record, and on a sleeve, a poster or a T-shirt it can’t make a sound. I make the cover photograph and put the song underneath it. Someone picks up your vinyl at the merch table, holds up their phone and hears the opening bars before they’ve paid. At a gig, the poster keeps making your case while you’re packing up.

  • An artist and their portrait

Your portrait goes everywhere you can’t: into press packs, onto gallery walls, into the programme of a festival you’re not at. Most artist portraits say “this is what I look like”. Yours can tell people what you make and why, in your own voice. A curator going through fifty submissions hears you before she reads your statement.

  • A grandmother, and the story she tells every Christmas

A portrait of her, and underneath it, her voice telling the story the family has heard every Christmas for forty years, pauses and all. In ten years the photograph will still look like her. The layer will still sound exactly like her.

  • Or you just want to immortalise how hot you look right now. Yasss.

The haircut’s finally right, you’ve grown into your face, and you want proof on the wall. No layer needed, no reason required. That’s a portrait too.

Couples and friends come to me as well: a first dance, two friends who’ve been finishing each other’s sentences for thirty years. If it matters to you, we can find a way to keep it.

These are just some ways my AR methodology can expand your photo.

Photographs made for the way you will use them.

Personal portrait commissions include permission to print, display and share your finished photographs for personal use.

Individual headshot bookings include professional-profile use, so you can use your portraits on your website, professional profiles and agreed publicity materials.

For campaigns, advertising, products or wider organisational use, tell me where the photographs will appear. The appropriate licence and fee will be agreed before you book.

The booking terms

When it’s ready

Your finished photographic portraits will be ready within two weeks of our session. AR commissions take up to four weeks, allowing time to shape, build and test the digital layer alongside your physical artwork.

Good to know
  • Where delivery depends on your selections, material you supply or approvals, I’ll explain those steps up front. If anything is delayed, we’ll agree an updated delivery date together.
  • Physical artwork is ready to collect or posted within the same time. Postal transit time comes on top.

We can work through the details together.

Once your booking payment is received, you’re welcome to email or WhatsApp me throughout your commission. Share an idea, ask a question or talk through what would help you feel comfortable. You don’t need to have everything worked out before we begin.

Yours to keep, yours to decide

You can decide what’s recorded, how it’s used and who gets to hear it. A musician wants the whole world scanning. A mum might want only the family to know. Both are fine. For a personal portrait, whether I may show it in my portfolio, exhibitions or marketing is a separate question, and the answer is yours. For professional and commercial commissions, I may show selected finished images in my portfolio unless we agree otherwise in writing before you book.

The platform used to deliver your AR artwork may change. Where a change affects access, updated instructions will be provided within the agreed support arrangements. Your commission will specify the included hosting and support period, device requirements and any ongoing charges before you book.

You don’t need to understand any of the technology. You only need something worth keeping, even if it’s just your good side.
